John Lennon Death 30th Anniversary: Happy Xmas (War is Over) and Other Thoughts

I’ve just popped over to a dear friend’s blog and discovered it’s the anniversary of John  Lennon’s death – 30 years ago today – and it has prompted me to write my own thoughts on such a great, talented singer.

Being a Brit and proud of the Beatles, and particularly fond of John Lennon, I have a small collection of original vinyl singles*, which I would never part with. My favourites being, “Happy Xmas (War is over)” by John & Yoko/The Plastic Ono Band – and of course many peoples Beatles favourite “All You Need Is Love”. True talent, totally wasted. He is sorely missed. Even now. And even by new generations who have never seen him perform.

I only have vague recollections of hearing about John Lennon being assassinated. Much of what I know is down to tv coverage broadcast since, especially on each anniversary of his death.

Today there is a programme on the telly staring Christopher Eccleston (once our very own Dr. Who) as John Lennon in a drama which charts his transition from Beatle John to enduring and enigmatic icon.

For those of you who can – I urge you to watch it! You can find out a bit more about it here> BBC4

In addition, here is a Sun Newspaper report on the apparent ‘Secret Wife who could have stopped John Lennon’s killer’ (How true it is, I do not know. The Sun does have a reputation for sensationalising things – more than others).

Whatever you watch, or read, or feel about this sad day – let it also remind you how we should never forget those we have lost, however they are taken from us.

Hugs. Happy Christmas, and Peace to All

Yep, that's me!

*I must add that in my collection I also have ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ with the B side ‘The Worm Song’ by Nina & Frederick…
