Er… writing? Or perhaps more specifically, National Novel Writing Month of November! (NaNoWriMo).
I guess it’s a hobby until you sell your work and get paid, right?
Which leads me on to letting you into a big secret… I am also taking part in PLOTOBER right now, prepping for a November target of 50,000 words!

So… I came up with a great idea. In order to help you, and to keep myself from slipping up, I’m not only announcing this November 50,000 word writing target to all and sundry, I’m going to show you how I go about it.
Yesterday I worked out the maths for a completed novel of 70,000 words. I know this is over the 50,000 target I need for November, however, I want as much as a completed book as possible, by the end of the month.
Here’s how I worked out the maths for a 70,000 word book I want to write:
My Word Count Target : 70,000 words
So, using my method of ‘GUESTIMATE’ I thought I’d try breaking down 70,000 words in 7 Sections.
That provides 7 sections of 10,000 words each. Too much for a chapter in my opinion, so I then broke down the 10,000 words per section even further.
7 sections – each with 10,000 words divided into further chunks of around 3, 300 words per chapter.
As you can see, for me, it’s not an exact science, I am just trying to break down the amount I have to write even further into more easily doable chunks.
So, 70,0000 divided by 3,300 (approx) = 21 (approx) which is the number I am allocating to the chapters.
So, we have —
70,000 words
21 Chapters
Each with 3,300 words (approx).
I could even take it further by planning how many scenes I would like to write for each chapter (3,300 words), and that might look like 3,300 divided by 3 = 1,100 words per scene.
This results in a much less daunting process that is more easily manageable to write and to keep track off. So, c’mon, what ya waiting for? Come and join me —> My NaNoWriMo profile where you can follow my progress or even write with me!

Angelika xx
